Our spring climbing season wrapped up on Saturday with a final competition at NH Climbing & Fitness. Climbers had the option to either top rope or boulder. Two SRS climbers earned ribbons: Dan N. (second place, category D) and Nevan H. (third place, category C). We are proud of the entire team for working hard this season, pushing past their comfort zones to attempt challenging routes, and being great teammates! Thanks to the parents for their support!

Thursday`s Eighth Grade Washington D.C. activities included a trolley tour with stops and student presentations* of Martin Luther King Jr., Franklin D. Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, the Tidal Basin, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial and Vietnam Women’s Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial.
A tour of the Capitol included a visit with Senator Jeanne Shaheen followed by lunch at the Capitol and student presentations of the Library of Congress and the Supreme Court.
Students visited several Smithsonian museums including the Air and Space Museum and then gave presentations of the National Museum of the American Indian and the Natural History Museum.
The evening included dinner in Old Town followed by ice cream and a magic show on King Street. It was an impromptu way to celebrate an Eighth Grader`s birthday!
*Prior to their trip students selected D.C. landmarks, researched them, and prepared brief presentations to share their significance, notable features, and interesting facts with their peers.

Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students fulfill their spring physical education component of the curriculum learning and practicing lacrosse twice each week. After warm-up exercises students work on throwing, catching, and scooping. Pictured here are the Second Grade students.

On Wednesday, Eighth Grade students visited the White House, Pentagon, 9/11 Memorial, WWI Memorial, and WWII Memorial. In the evening, they took in a D.C. United Game—an excursion generously funded by the SRS PTG. Big thanks to Mike Vlacich for helping to secure White House and Capitol tours!

Our Eighth Grade students are exploring Washington D.C. in such a meaningful way. Day two included visits to the Holocaust Memorial Museum, National Guard Museum, Navy Memorial, National Law Enforcement Memorial, National Archives, and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Day three included a visit to the White House. We are filled with excitement and gratitude for the profound experiences our students are having in Washington D.C. and look forward to more updates!

Last Thursday we held our first home golf match of the season against Gilbert H. Hood Middle School. Seven golfers from each school played our 6-hole course. While this was a non-competitive match, our SRS golfers saw improvements in their games and were pleased with their play. Thanks to Gilbert H. Hood golfers for their sportsmanship!

Yesterday`s outdoor band and chorus concert featured Fourth through Eighth Grade students in a variety of ensembles including 4-5 chorus, 6-8 chorus, and several concert, jazz, and rock band groups. This concert showcases all the work these musicians have put in throughout the year, both independently and together under the direction of Mrs. Minsinger and Mr. Solsky. And, as it takes place during the academic day, the concert serves as a live demonstration of the instruments younger students can begin to learn as they enter Fourth Grade.
