What I love about SRS: SRS is a place where children always come first. Every decision is made with children in mind – from Infants through 9th grade.

Favorite SRS Tradition: The Halloween Jack-o-Lantern Hayride is a great community event. I love seeing the artfully carved pumpkins placed along the cross-country trail. To see them all aglow and listen to children and parents enjoy their evening ride exemplifies the best of the SRS community.

What I love about SRS: I have been a part of Shaker Road School since its inception. When Doug and Patti started the school, they chose “loving, learning, and caring” as the motto. Nearly 40 years later, these themes hold true. We strive to offer students and families a true sense of professionalism, a caring concern for every student’s well-being, and friendliness that allows families and students to feel safe and important while learning.

 What I love about SRS: SRS is true to its mission of challenging and supporting students academically and socially. Shaker students do not simply go through the motions, but are challenged to be more and do more.

Favorite SRS Tradition: My new favorite tradition is KickBack each spring. I love the community rallying behind a local organization to raise much needed funds while playing the school’s most popular sport: soccer. This event epitomizes Shaker’s unique balance between having students contribute to the larger world yet recognizing they are still children and bringing the entire community together.

What I love about SRS: The school is my home away from home. The students, families, and my colleagues are like an extension of my own family. Favorite SRS Tradition: Spring Fling is my favorite SRS tradition. It’s one of our oldest traditions and one I remember participating in when I was a young child. Now my family and I get to watch my daughter participate in this same tradition.

What I strive to teach students: Working with Infants, I strive to create a loving, nurturing and educational atmosphere in my classroom. I love exposing children to new tactile experiences as well various sensory activities to help them learn about the world around them. I encourage all students to reach their individual developmental milestones in a safe environment, where they are free to explore!

What I love about SRS: I love that this school is all inclusive! Having children of my own, it gives me piece of mind that they not only get a great education, but they are able to participate in multiple activities before and after school, ranging from sports to drama and music lessons. The school community is really just one big family, everyone loves being here!

What do you strive to teach your students? I’m not in the classroom, but I believe that instilling and reinforcing respect in our community is as much a function of my job as any of the day-to-day work that I do on campus.

What I love about SRS: Though the school has grown and evolved in the twenty-one years that I’ve been here, much of the small school, family-oriented feeling has been retained; I love that sense of continuity that continues to be a strong part of the Shaker Road community.

Favorite SRS Tradition: The Pumpkin Hayride has to be my favorite campus tradition; the whole school comes together and works hard to put together a truly enjoyable evening. It really starts the Fall season for me and is the lead-in to the fun that follows.

Favorite SRS Tradition: I love the SRS community. It is truly hard to explain how strong the community is until you are part of it and see for yourself. Whether it be reading buddies, a project, or just a visit on the playground.
