Athletics & Activities
Playing with Passion
Athletics and early skill exploration are important components in the development of each student at Shaker Road School, as they learn the basic rules and strategies of different sports, but also how to work together, lead, and practice good sportsmanship. The Athletic program emphasizes active participation of students at all skill levels. Under the guidance of skilled and supportive coaches, our athletes develop the mental and physical skills needed to help them succeed on and off the field.
The Soccer program is offered to students in Grades Three through Eight. Our teams participate in the Merrimack Valley soccer league, with games held throughout the fall season. All students in Kindergarten through Second Grade participate in our co-ed intramural soccer program during the school day in the fall. Indoor soccer is offered to students in Grades One through Nine from mid-October to April. Games are held once a week.
Cross Country Running
Cross country running is offered to students in Grades Three through Nine. Middle School students participate in Cross Country meets competing against other area middle schools throughout the state. The fall season runs from September through mid-October. All students train on the Shaker Road School running trails.
Golf is offered to students in Grades Three through Nine in the fall and spring. The SRS Links is a six-hole course located on school grounds. Middle school students participate in several intramural competitions throughout the season. Students of all ages are welcome to play on the golf course with their families on weekends or in the evenings.
Nordic Skiing / Snowshoeing
SRS grooms and maintains several miles of cross-country and snowshoeing trails. Students in all grades can participate in Nordic skiing on these trails throughout the winter months, and some meets are scheduled during the season among neighboring schools. The trails are also used for recreational purposes by the staff, students, and parents in the afternoons and on weekends.
Ice-skating takes place on SRS property. This program is available for children from three years of age and up.
The five-week downhill ski program is offered to students in Kindergarten through Ninth Grade. Students in Grades Three through Nine can also choose to snowboard. Students ski/snowboard once per week for five weeks during the regular school day. Students are grouped by ability, placed into lessons, and then ski/snowboard for the remainder of the day at the mountain. Kindergarten through Fourth grade students ski and snowboard at Mount Sunapee in Newbury, NH. Students in Grades Five through Eight ski and snowboard at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH.
Archery is offered to students in Third through Eighth Grade, in the fall and spring.
Our fitness center is offered as an after-school activity for Middle School students. Our facility offers state-of-the art equipment in a beautiful, light-filled space. Parents of students may use the center for $100/year.
Students in grades Five through Eight can participate in intramural flag football twice a week from April to June, culminating with the annual and ever-popular “Shaker Bowl.”
Students in Grades Three through Eight can participate in our competitive rock climbing program. Training, coaching and competitions take place at EVO Rocks in Concord, NH.
Students can suggest additional activities for consideration to fulfill their athletic graduation requirements. Depending on interest, new athletics may be incorporated into the program. Several additional organized activities, both athletic and non-athletic, and opportunities for free-play occur as part of the after school program.
