Our Mission & History

Our Mission: Seek, Reach, Soar!

Shaker Road School is a family focused community dedicated to developing the whole child. Combining an academically rigorous curriculum with specialized programs to foster self-worth and respect for others, we prepare each child to contribute positively to a rapidly changing world.

Our History

Patricia and Douglas Hicks established Shaker Road School in 1979, to meet the social and educational needs of a growing population of preschool children from ages two through six years in Concord, New Hampshire. The Hicks family recognized that early childhood education is critical to the future academic and social success of all students…and that there were very few preschool programs available within their own community. Their awareness of the fundamental academic needs of young preschoolers combined with a nurturing and caring environment propelled the school to grow at a rapid pace.

SRS started with only six children, and rapidly grew to expand its reach through ninth grade. Its continued success is based upon its ability to adjust to the changing needs of children and families, as well as adaptations in new teaching methods and practices that help foster creativity and academic success in an individually oriented, yet challenging curriculum.

The school resides on a beautiful campus of 63 acres enabling students to experience not only academic excellence, but a love and appreciation for the outdoors. In addition to its traditional education program, the campus facilities also support a summer camp, music programs, 6-hole golf course, extensive playgrounds, swimming pools, nature trails, an ice skating pond, and numerous other resources.
