What I strive to teach students: I strive to teach my students how to use evidence to form opinions; to recognize when they need help and how to ask for it; and how to lose themselves in the world a storyteller creates. Oh yeah—grammar, too!

School Activities: Coaching FLL robotics, rock climbing, indoor soccer, and flag football; performing in the faculty talentless show; teaching filmmaking

Personal Interests: Running, hiking, camping, rock climbing, basketball, movies, reading, aquascaping, and time with family

What I love about SRS: I love the sense of belonging when I show up for work every day. When you become a member of Shaker Road School, whether as a student, an employee, or a parent, you belong to a community that welcomes you, supports you, and challenges you to be your best self.

Favorite SRS Tradition: Middle School Winter Olympics!

What I strive to teach students: I strive to teach my students that mistakes are part of the learning process. They can accomplishing things independently.

Personal Interests: I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the lake in the summer, and watching crime dramas and football

What I love about SRS: I love that SRS is a place where students are able to be themselves in a safe learning environment. Students are encouraged to take pride in their work.

Favorite SRS Tradition: The pumpkin hayride is my favorite tradition during the school year and Fox and Hound during the summer.

What I love most about SRS: The sense of community that allows us to work together effectively, easily develop and integrate new curriculum, and develop programming changes to best meet the needs of our students.

What I strive to teach students: I am passionate about teaching students to think deeply about their learning and their lives. What interests and motivates them? What type of people do they want to be?

School Activities: Soccer, Nordic, flag football coach. Alpine skiing, snowboarding. Student government. Academic competitions.

Personal Interests: Hiking, running, winter sports, travel

 What I love about SRS: SRS is true to its mission of challenging and supporting students academically and socially. Shaker students do not simply go through the motions, but are challenged to be more and do more.

Favorite SRS Tradition: My new favorite tradition is KickBack each spring. I love the community rallying behind a local organization to raise much needed funds while playing the school’s most popular sport: soccer. This event epitomizes Shaker’s unique balance between having students contribute to the larger world yet recognizing they are still children and bringing the entire community together.

What I love about SRS: EVERYTHING! Most importantly, the faculty, staff and families that have made it what is is over the past 40 years.

What I strive to teach students: To be compassionate to themselves and others!

Favorite SRS Tradition: Halloween Parade!

What I strive to teach students: I spend a lot of time before and after school with students. I really want the students to have fun, and treat each other fairly and respectfully.

School Activities: Jr. Lego League coach, before and after school teacher, flag football coach

Personal Interests: New England sports, especially Red Sox and and Patriots, plus skiing, mountain biking, cycling, and spending time with my family.

What I love about SRS: Shaker is like a second home to me and my children. The people who I work with and who have taught my children are like a second family to us. I feel very lucky to be part of such a great community.

What I strive to teach students: My focus is on teaching independence and self-advocacy skills through problem solving activities across the curriculum, including citizenship themes and social education.

What I love about SRS: The school community is my second home. I began working here in college and have never left. I look forward to watching my two sons grow up in the SRS community.

Favorite SRS Tradition: Grandparents’ Day

What I strive to teach students: I strive to create community within my classroom–a community that encourages kindness and sharing, while inviting a curiosity to learn, ask questions, and share stories.

Personal Interests: I enjoy cooking, gardening, walking, boating – and spending time with my family.

What I love about SRS: I love the atmosphere at SRS; it is second to none! It embraces the children and the staff and provides a wonderful environment for learning.

What I strive to teach students: I strive to teach my students to be independent thinkers and lifelong learners by asking good questions, communicating clearly, collaborating with others, challenging themselves, taking risks and making mistakes, and knowing when to ask for help.

School Activities: Curriculum Committee Chair, NEASC Visiting Team member, Robotics Co-Coach, Ski and Field Trip Chaperone, Lifeguard

Personal Interests: Dance, Spending time with family, Skiing

What I love about SRS: The school is my home away from home. The students, families, and my colleagues are like an extension of my own family. I have grown as an educator because of our supportive community of learners. I am fortunate to work with an energetic team of teachers who love what they do and strive to provide the best education for all students.

Favorite SRS Tradition: Spring Fling is my favorite SRS tradition. It’s one of our oldest traditions and one I remember participating in when I was a young child. Now my family and I get to watch my daughter participate in this same tradition.

What I strive to teach students: I strive to teach students that being wrong and facing struggle is an imperative part of the learning process. Problem solvers don’t get any practice without problems!

Personal Interests: Country music concerts, a good book on a great beach day, being artsy

What I love about SRS: I love the sense of community that is inevitable when playing a teacher role here. I get to know my students and their families, both in and out of the classroom.

Favorite SRS Tradition: 8th Grade Graduation: a classy evening that honors the time our students have spent with us and all of their accomplishments.

What I strive to teach students:  That they are independent thinkers able to enjoy the learning process while also learning to collaborate with and support their peers

Personal Interests: outdoor activities and spending time with family and friends

What I love about SRS: I love the community connection of colleagues, children and families together that we have at SRS. Also the vast campus grounds that we are able to enjoy on a daily basis, not only providing for recreational activities but curriculum-based learning activities as well.

Favorite SRS Tradition: My favorite tradition is our newest tradition, Grandparents Day Celebration. I enjoy this day the most because it gives families the opportunity to enjoy the same experiences that the children enjoy every day.

What I strive to teach students: At this age, the most important thing is to learn social/emotional skills.

What I love most about SRS: The school strongly values the arts and provides students many opportunities to experience visual arts through enrichment and art club.

Favorite SRS Tradition: I love so many, but if I had to select one it would be the Halloween Hayride.

Education: Associates in Early Childhood Education from Monroe Community College, Certificate in Medical Assisting from Hesser College, Certificate in Cosmetology from Shear Ego International School of Hair Design

What I strive to teach students: Working with Infants, I strive to create a loving, nurturing and educational atmosphere in my classroom. I love exposing children to new tactile experiences as well various sensory activities to help them learn about the world around them. I encourage all students to reach their individual developmental milestones in a safe environment, where they are free to explore!

School Activities: Help with hair and makeup for Middle School drama

Personal Interests: Sewing, DIY projects, hiking, cooking, spending time with my family.

What I love about SRS: I love that this school is all inclusive! Having children of my own, it gives me piece of mind that they not only get a great education, but they are able to participate in multiple activities before and after school, ranging from sports to drama and music lessons. The school community is really just one big family, everyone loves being here!

Favorite SRS Tradition: My favorite SRS tradition would have to be the Pumpkin Stroll, but it’s hard to choose just one favorite!

What I strive to teach students: I strive to teach children to love books, to see them as a tool to learn new things, and imagine wonderful adventures.

Personal Activities: playing ukulele in three clubs, playing clarinet for 12 years in a band, spending time with her husband

What I love about SRS: I love being able to watch children grow. I love all the opportunities the children have to learn academically as well as musically, athletically, and socially.

Favorite SRS Tradition: I especially like the Halloween traditions like making jack-o-lanterns with the students

What do you strive to teach your students? I’m not in the classroom, but I believe that instilling and reinforcing respect in our community is as much a function of my job as any of the day-to-day work that I do on campus.

School Activities: Safety Committee, Sustainability Program, support of all campus sport and recreational activities through grounds maintenance, Pumpkin Hayride driver

Personal Interests: Spending time with family, Live Music, Hard Work, The Wild Outdoors, Trout Fishing

What I love about SRS: Though the school has grown and evolved in the twenty-one years that I’ve been here, much of the small school, family-oriented feeling has been retained; I love that sense of continuity that continues to be a strong part of the Shaker Road community.

Favorite SRS Tradition: The Pumpkin Hayride has to be my favorite campus tradition; the whole school comes together and works hard to put together a truly enjoyable evening. It really starts the Fall season for me and is the lead-in to the fun that follows.
