Learning Outside the Classroom

Extracurricular activities are a key component to learning at Shaker Road School.  Following is a list of some of the Clubs and Activities available to our students.

FIRST LEGO League

Students in Grades 5-9 may join one of our FIRST LEGO League teams and compete in the worldwide challenge with thousands of other schools. Each year, FIRST presents a two-pronged challenge:

  1. Building and programming a Lego EV3 robot to perform various tasks on a challenge board
  2. Researching and developing a solution to a real-world problem

Guided by FIRST LEGO League Core Values, students work throughout the fall season to compete in the regional tournament in November. SRS teams regularly earn the right to compete in the State Championship tournament in December.

Math Club

The SRS Math Club participates in 3 different math programs. We compete in the Contoocook Valley Math League, which consists monthly math meets with students from local middle schools. We also participate in the MATHCOUNTS competition and MATHCOUNTS club programs. Students who love math can choose to compete or join us just for the fun! SRS Math Club meetings involve collaborative problem solving, math games and competition practice. Students in grades 5-8 are welcome to join.

Student Government

Dances, fundraisers, talent shows, advocating for new playground equipment, conducting campus tours…all are a part of student government at Shaker Road School. Student government is made up of elected representatives from grades 5-8 and elected officers (president, vice president, and secretary) from grades 7 and 8. Representatives and officers work to improve student life at Shaker Road School by ensuring that the student body has a voice. The students meet weekly with a faculty adviser to plan events, discuss student suggestions, and advocate for their classmates. The members of student government are taught to use rules of order for meetings, discussion, and votes. They learn to delegate tasks and manage the execution of plans for events. Elections are held every fall.

Students may suggest additional activities for consideration. Depending on interest, new clubs and athletics may be developed.
