Curricula
Introducing Cross Cultural Connections
Exposure to world languages and cultures is a critical part of learning one’s place in the world, and gaining an understanding and respect for the differences that range across communities, societies, and countries. Learning new languages in early childhood also helps understand the basic fundamentals of language construction, reading, and comprehension. World language study begins in Kindergarten and continues through Ninth Grade during the regular academic day.
Spanish
Spanish language and culture courses begin in Kindergarten and continue through Fifth Grade. The Spanish Program focuses on:
- Promoting language learning in the areas of listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Making cross-cultural connections and respecting differences
- Demonstrating communication skills
- Developing an interest in future world language study
Latin
Latin is offered to Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Grade students with a focus on grammar and translation. Students learn multiple conjugations of verbs across all tenses, all cases of nouns in the first three declensions, parts of speech, and sentence grammar and syntax. The course also exposes students to the history and culture of Rome. Classical pronunciation of the language is emphasized.
